Archive Mouse is a macOS application for managing texts and their versions and for managing document archives. It was previously called Writing Manager.

What this program is for:

ARCHIVE MOUSE is designed for people working with text archives, writers, editors, researchers, journalists, students, and teachers.

The program can:

  • find exact file copies and documents with identical text;
  • find similar documents and similar filenames;
  • find words and phrases and highlight them in the text;
  • find repeated paragraphs and large text fragments;
  • navigate to found locations in a document;
  • show file information and a text excerpt;
  • open and rename files and show them in Finder;
  • move files to Trash and restore them;
  • compare two text versions in Microsoft Word without formatting.

Supported formats: DOCX, TXT, and RTF.

All files are processed only on your computer. The program uses Microsoft Word to open documents at a found location and to compare two versions. When you use these functions for the first time, your computer may ask for permission to control Microsoft Word. You accept this system permission once.

Data collection:

The app operates entirely on your computer. It does not collect, transmit, or store any personal data. All data you work with remains on your device. The app does not connect to the internet, does not send information to any servers, and does not access your contacts, files, or other personal information beyond what you directly open in the app.
