PORTRAITS OF POWER
We are so overwhelmed today by the floods of images in the media that our innocent view has been lost. Julia Kissina’s large-scale colour photographs baulk at quick consumption, if only for their almost corporal presence and their subtle combination of contradictory pictorial strategies. They live from the conflict between the form and content of their production and thus develop a special dramatic quality which grips the viewer.
